Golf Analytics and Optimization

Imagine a heat map of your golf course and the players on it. Now consider how helpful this would be in understanding the flow of your golfers and how it could be used to optimize your course to suit your clients.
I was talking to my brother in-law, (he worked for a golf company in Muskoka then moved to Alberta to help out a shop there) about mobile devices and apps and how they seem to do everything. The topic then turned to technology and golf which led to an idea. “Golf Analytics and Optimization”.
Now, GPS functions are nothing new to the golf community, but what about attaching one to the golfer and one to the cart. You could get “heat maps” of your golf course showing where players walk the most, where bottlenecks appear and why.
Your findings could be as simple as: At the 7th hole 75% of players order a beverage, therefore we should keep the beverage cart closer to there. Or possibly, many golfers are losing their balls on the 15th hole, and spending too much time searching for them. What can we do to prevent this? You could even congratulate a player on a great shot by knowing where they hit from and where they got out of the cart to hit again.
The possibilities and benefits are endless—like my time in that sand trap last summer. What are you thoughts? What do you think would help?
