Say cheese to social media.

This is a simple marketing idea I think could work well for a few industries. Imagine a public area; a mall, busy sidewalk, airport, whatever you like. Now set up an iPad on a podium facing a mock scene made of durable cardboard, wood, or something that can take a bit of abuse from the hundreds, if not millions of people who will stop to try this.
Right away the user sees images on the iPad of other people who have taken pictures of themselves in this scene or in other similar scenes around the city. They push a button and a large countdown starts. They then run and pose in the scene, which could be of an upcoming movie or a tourist destination. Once the image is taken they have the option to retake the photo or share it on their social media channel of choice; Facebook, Twitter, tumblr or all of the above.
Think about it. They could share an image of themselves in Cuba, saying “Great weekend in Cuba” to tease their friends that didn’t go. They could pose, as the Green Lantern for the upcoming movie, and it’s all automated. No need for your own camera or another person to take the photo. The possibilities are endless.
Just a fun idea.
